After many fruitless trips to New York bridal boutiques and testing out different shades of blue and dusty pink tulle, Alemany saw Alexa Buckley’s wedding (a friend and former classmate) in Vogue and was reminded of Mark Ingram’s designs. “I was already a Mark Ingram fan, but I didn’t actually push him to be a part of my trips to NYC. I came back to New York and asked if he could do something blue for me—and he said yes!” Alemany recalls. “It felt serendipitous. They were super excited about it in a way that my other conversations with designers weren’t.”
Still, after trying on a few classic white wedding dresses to please her grandmother, Alemany felt a little tempted to go for a more traditional bridal look. “I was like, ‘I see people getting too carried away with this and choosing something that doesn’t really look like them,’” Alemany says. Still, she stuck to her instincts and continued searching for her perfect, playful wedding dress. One time, a friend recalled a blue wedding dress that had caught both of their eyes a few years earlier: “It was a completely different dress, but it planted the seed that we were narrowing it down to blue,” Alemany explains.
Alemany and Ingram worked together to select the right fabric and the perfect shade of blue before flying in samples from their manufacturer in Italy. Throughout the design process, Alemany had a few references she kept in mind: Fellini’s dreamy 1956 epic Juliet of the Spirits and Disney’s classic Alice in Wonderland. “When I got the dress, it felt like it fit perfectly,” Alemany recalls. “I felt like a princess in a fairy tale.”
