In the first episode, Leroy-Beaulieu—aka Sylvie—stops by the Vogue offices. Dressed in a chic brown Rochas suit, she shares some of her best red carpet looks with Chloe and Vogue senior writer Elise Taylor. She also discusses Parisian versus Roman style, discusses her attitude toward aging, and reveals whether she’s Team Gabriel or Team Marcello. Au revoir! The meeting begins like any meeting does: with the best of intentions. I learn that this guy—let’s call him Bobby—is kind, smart, and would be perfect for me. It’s all been arranged by a friend who’s getting married; she plans to introduce me to Bobby at the wedding. In a classic setup, we’ll be sitting next to each other at dinner.

Conversation flowed easily enough at first; we knew a lot of the same people and grew up in similar parts of London. He was attractive, charming, and friendly. A catch… until he got drunk. So drunk, in fact, that he kept trying to pick fights with other people on the dance floor. I’m not sure how it happened (did he sneak vodka in the bathroom?), but before long his friends were holding him upright to stop him falling over the tables outside and cursing at everyone around him whenever he got up.
