“I didn’t expect to cry there, but the moment I saw Corinne and Jamie, who was also emotional, walk down the aisle, all expectations were thrown out the window,” Joe recalls. “I was in awe of her beauty and inspired by Jamie’s example as a father. Throughout Jamie’s health struggles, the family has been through so much together. Seeing all of us get to this moment opened the floodgates. It was beautiful and unlike anything I could have imagined.” The couple was intentional about the look and feel of their ceremony. “We often use the phrase ‘secret garden’ to refer to the ceremony,” Corinne says. “I always envisioned a curved aisle, and we wanted it to feel whimsical.” Since Corinne and Joe describe themselves as more spiritual than religious, this gave them the freedom to create their own traditions—one of which was a watering ceremony. “Each member of our wedding party walked down the aisle and watered a small tree at the end of the ceremony,” Corinne explained. “The tree symbolized our new life together and the watering symbolized everyone who poured love into our budding chapter.”

From there, they tried to create a cohesive look throughout the bridal shower and after-party outfits. “But I ended up loving my shower look, and it didn’t match my wedding dress at all,” Corinne admits. “[At that point], we were just like, ‘Who cares?!’ So I ended up having three completely different looks throughout my wedding week, and I’m so happy about that. We did what we loved, rather than trying to tell a fashion story.” On the wedding day, Corinne’s dad walked her down the aisle. “It was super special, considering his health last year,” she shares. “I walked down the aisle to a stringed instrument version of Ray Charles’ ‘Georgia On My Mind.’ My dad won an Oscar for [Ray] in 2005. When I was 10, I walked him down the aisle and got to share that special moment with him. There wasn't a single person in the family who didn't shed a tear as we walked down the aisle."

The wedding was officiated by Reverend Michael Beckwith, and the couple decided to write their own vows. “We’re both writers, so we put a lot of time and thought into our vows,” Corinne said. “We told stories about how we fell in love and how we knew we were meant for each other. It was very personal. I could see my parents, family and friends crying throughout the ceremony.” Joe said: “When it came time to read the vows, I was so nervous, so I just went with it.” “Jamie’s periodic comic relief every time he shouted, ‘Slow down, Joe’ helped. The truth is, I already felt like Corinne and I were a family, but there was something about reflecting on everything we'd been through together, declaring our love and commitment to each other, and going through this ceremony together, that made it official in a way that felt so special to all of us.”
